In addition to the standard Academy field ratio, there are two principal ratio systems used for cinematic projection—wide-screen and cinemascope, or scope, for short. Wide-screen uses the Academy format for its horizontal dimension, hut crops the vertical top-to-bottom measurement, producing a slightly squatter format. A 15-inch field size, which is the preferable size to use in large-screen cinema projection, would thus be 15 inches wide but approximately 8.1 inches from top to bottom.
