The drawings above show how the same pictorial materials may be arranged to lit proportionately into pictures of different shapes. Divide the area into squares. Now align the pictorial matter with these divisions. Your eye will tell you when to use the lines or the spaces. Do not use the proportion of two to four, since this results in equal spacing, which generally is not good in any but very formal composition. Four to four and five to seven usually seem to work out best.
